The standard engine is the familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder BOXER® engine that outputs 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. The upgraded engine is the equally familiar 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder BOXER engine rated at 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both engines pair with a continuously variable transmission and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive®.
Most trims also come standard with 8.7 inches of ground clearance and X-MODE® with Hill Descent Control. The exception is the supremely capable 2026 Subaru Outback Wilderness, which upgrades to 9.5 inches of ground clearance and dual-function X-MODE. This trim is also newly equipped with electronically controlled dampers for an even greater level of control.
Infotainment
In addition to its exceptional performance, the 2026 Subaru Outback scores high in terms of infotainment technology. The most noticeable change from last year is a new 12.1-inch touchscreen that runs Android Automotive™. This Google-based software platform integrates a new processor that ensures sharp touchscreen graphics and immediate response times. All trims also come standard with wireless smartphone integration, while the mid- and high-end trims also get wireless device charging and a Harman Kardon® sound system.
