Some cars are built on a set of tires, ours are built on a set of values (and really good tires).
Mid-Hudson Subaru Dealership Tire Center

At Mid-Hudson Subaru Dealership, we know our way around tires, especially when it comes to pairing your Subaru with the correct ones it was engineered to ride on. We know the correct size and type that's best suited for your vehicle. At our tire center, we offer all the major brands and we can also assist you with all-season, summer, performance, and snow/winter tire options.

The Importance of Good Tires

The area where your tires actually contact the road is very small, sometimes no bigger than the size of your hand. This makes it all the more important that they have a safe amount of tread life and are in good condition. Properly functioning tires are key for safety, performance and ride quality.

Reasons Tires Need to be Replaced

Excessive Wear
Don't wait until your tread has been worn completely from the surface of your tires before you get around to replacing them. Tires are generally rated to last a set amount of miles when you buy them. Certain factors can reduce the life of your tires, such as driving conditions and habits.

Many states have laws requiring car tires to carry a minimum amount of tread depth to be legal on the road. That is because bald tires have a very hard time maintaining traction, they're unsafe. Keep track of your tire's wear levels.

Mid-Hudson Subaru technicians record the tread depth of your tires when you come in for an oil change. That will give you plenty of warning when it's almost time to get them replaced. You can also perform a check yourself. All you need is a penny. Hold the penny so that Lincoln's head is facing the surface of the tire, and place the penny in several of the tread grooves in different places on each tire. As a rule of thumb, if the tread is deeper than the top of Lincoln's head, you're ok. However, if you're anywhere close you might want to start making plans for replacement.

Road Damage
Road damage tends to send tires into retirement long before their intended service life is over. The most common road damage is a fault in the tire's sidewall. Once the sidewall of the tire is compromised, the tire is at very high risk for blowout. Look for bubbles in the rubber of the sidewall, it will generally look like a marble or small ball buried under the rubber surface of the tire.

Sidewall damage is irreparable. You will always have to replace a tire whose sidewall has been damaged. You can also inspect the tread of the tire for deep cuts or faults, but generally you only have to worry about this part of the tire if a problem has become apparent while you are driving (i.e. excessive vibration at speed).

What's a four-wheel alignment?

Simply, a four-wheel alignment uses sophisticated lasers and sensors to determine the wheel angles of your Subaru. If the computer detects that they are out of alignment - according to specifications - our factory trained technicians make the proper adjustments to bring them back into alignment.

Having your car aligned - especially when you have new tires installed - will help promote tire longevity. Poor road conditions and daily driving can cause misalignment over time. If you've felt vibrations or your vehicle pulling to one side, a wheel alignment may correct those concerns.

Ever notice this light before?

TPMS Light

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Light

If the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) light comes on and stays lit while you drive, it is warning you that low tire pressure has been detected in one or more of your tires (excluding the spare). Tire pressure can drop when the weather changes from hot to cold, but it will also decrease if you have an air leak. You can check the pressure yourself. Watch this video about checking the tire pressure on your Subaru.

Remember, a flashing tire light may mean there is a malfunction with the TPMS system or a damaged sensor. You can bring your Subaru to our service center if you have a concern, and we can take care of that light for you.
